What can you edit?

Nicknames

Rename any Pokémon in your party or PC boxes — up to 10 characters from the in-game character set.

OT names & Trainer ID

Change the Original Trainer name on any Pokémon, or your save's Trainer ID and hidden Secret ID.

Experience

Set the experience value stored in a Pokémon's growth data. Checksums are recomputed for you automatically.

How it works

  1. Open — drop your 128 KB .sav file onto the editor. The tool detects which save slot (A or B) is newest, exactly like the game does.
  2. Edit — change nicknames, OT names, IDs or experience. Both the main and the backup save slot are updated.
  3. Export — download the edited file, put it back into your emulator's battery save folder, and load the game. Keep a backup of your original file.

Why a browser-based save editor?

Nothing to install

No downloads, no admin rights, no compatibility worries. If you have a browser, you can open a Gen 3 save — on Windows, macOS, Linux or a Chromebook.

Your saves stay yours

The parser runs in JavaScript in your tab. There is no backend and no upload code anywhere on this site — your save file never leaves your computer.

Built on the documented format

Gen 3 save files are a community-documented format: two rotating save slots, 14 checksummed sections each, encrypted Pokémon data blocks. Read the complete format explanation.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to edit my save file?

The tool never uploads your file, so your privacy is safe. But save files matter: always keep a backup copy before putting an edited file back. Each Pokémon record carries a checksum which this tool recomputes after every edit; a mismatch makes the game treat a Pokémon as a "Bad Egg".

Which games and files are supported?

Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen — the Game Boy Advance generations. The file must be the raw 128 KB battery save (.sav) that GBA emulators such as mGBA or VBA-M keep next to your ROM. Save states, .sgm snapshots and DS/3DS saves are not supported.

Where do I find my .sav file?

Emulators store it next to your game file, usually with the same name and a .sav extension (mGBA: <rom>.sav; VBA-M: <rom>.sav). If your emulator uses save states only, load the game once and save in-game to create a battery save.

Why did my nickname turn into "?" characters?

Gen 3 games store text in a proprietary character set. This editor only accepts characters the Western games can actually display; everything else is replaced with "?" so the game never sees an invalid byte.

Can I use edited Pokémon in online play?

Editing your save is a local operation, but taking edited Pokémon into online services (trading, battles, migration) is done at your own risk and may violate the terms of those services. See the disclaimer.
